The statistic comes from a Post Office® survey on payments preferences across the UK, published on December 3rd, 2019.

According to the Post Office® research, 45% of Brits intend to give cash as Christmas gifts this year (Post Office, 2019).

Other findings include

  • In rural areas across the UK, 66% of people celebrating Christmas are more likely to use cash than cards
  • Across the UK, 6 in 10 prefer cash for this season's festive activities and shopping
  • More than half of the UK's population are expected to visit a Post Office branch this month, of these, 20% intend to withdraw cash and 7% intend to deposit cash.
