The report explores how businesses and economies are developing two years into the pandemic, showing the sharp decline in cash usage seen in 2020 slowed greatly in 2021, especially in Latin America, where overall point of sale (POS) transactions have rebounded (up 12% from 2020) and cash remains the leading payment method, used for 36% of all transactions.

Cash continues to be a vital part of the POS mix, accounting for 17.9% of transaction value (over US$8.3 trillion) in 2021.
